Actor Nimrat Kaur has joined the Hemkunt Foundation’s ‘Dhabba Nahi’ campaign, a menstrual hygiene initiative focused on reaching underprivileged communities across India. The campaign, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic, has so far distributed menstrual care kits in 21 states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

Targeted specifically at women and girls in slum and underserved areas, the campaign aims to address the lack of access to basic menstrual hygiene products, while also challenging societal taboos and misconceptions around menstruation. Kaur, known for using her platform to support social causes, expressed her reasons for supporting the initiative. She said, “Menstruation is a necessary, natural and crucial part of any woman’s health. Yet it continues to be shrouded in silence and stigma, especially in the underprivileged areas. When Hemkunt Foundation approached me with their ‘Dhabba Nahi’ campaign, I felt an urgent and deep sense of responsibility to be a part of it.”
She added, “Affordability and access to menstrual products should not be a luxury – it’s a fundamental right. I hope this effort not only helps dispel this ridiculous taboo around something so basic to life but also ensures normalising conversations around periods, so no girl ever has to feel shame or miss school because of her period and no adult woman should ever feel awkward about anything related to periods.”
Each distributed kit includes sanitary napkins, disposal pouches, hygiene essentials, and educational content designed to encourage safe menstrual practices. Beyond distribution, the Hemkunt Foundation also runs awareness drives through trained volunteers and educators who hold open sessions in local communities.
Director of the Hemkunt Foundation, Harteerath Singh Ahluwalia, shared, “We started the Dhabba Nahi campaign to address a critical but often ignored need — menstrual hygiene. Since COVID-19, we’ve distributed menstrual care kits across 21 states, and with Nimrat Kaur joining us, we’re proud to take this mission to greater heights.”
He emphasized that Kaur’s participation brings attention to an issue that still struggles for visibility in mainstream conversations. The Foundation is now working to scale up the campaign and invites individuals and organizations to contribute through donations or volunteering.
