Chitrangda Singh, who recently appeared in the web series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, has addressed the comparisons drawn between her and the legendary Smita Patil. During the shoot of the Neeraj Pandey thriller, several members of the cast and crew noted a striking resemblance between the two actresses—both in appearance and screen presence.
Chitrangda Singh reveals it is a ‘huge compliment and responsibility’ to be compared to Smita Patil; says, “I would absolutely love to portray her life on screen”
Reflecting on the experience, Chitrangda said, “I had a wonderful time shooting for Khakee: The Bengal Chapter and created so many beautiful memories on set. But one moment that I’ll always hold close to my heart is when the cast and crew mentioned that I resembled the iconic Smita Patil. Although this wasn’t the first time I heard it, I’ve always admired her and been deeply inspired by her incredible body of work.”
She also shared a personal anecdote involving Smita Patil’s son, actor Prateik Babbar. “To be compared to someone as phenomenal as Smita Patil is not just a huge compliment, but also a reminder of the responsibility to continue striving for meaningful work in cinema. I even had the chance to meet her son, Prateik, and was truly stunned when he shared the same sentiment. If I ever get the opportunity and the right script comes along, I would absolutely love to portray her life on screen – it would be a true honour to celebrate her legacy through a biopic.”
In Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, Chitrangda plays Nibedita Basak, a fictional leader of the opposition in West Bengal. The role allowed her to explore a character that blends political resolve with emotional complexity. Her performance has received a positive response from both viewers and critics, who appreciated her grounded portrayal in a high-stakes narrative.
While Chitrangda has often been noted for choosing layered roles across genres, her recent statement highlights a desire to connect more deeply with cinematic legacies. If a biopic on Smita Patil ever materializes, Singh’s openness to the idea suggests a compelling possibility for the future. For now, the comparisons stand as a mark of appreciation – and a reminder of the legacy that continues to inspire generations of actors.
