In a heartfelt conversation on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Boman Irani opened up about the impact of growing up without a father. Reflecting on his emotional journey, he shared, “How can I sense the loss of something I’ve never experienced? I don’t even know what a father is. I had other issues—I was a nervous child. When there’s no father at home, people tend to become overprotective, and that creates a kind of comfort zone. I didn’t have that toughness. As a child, I had never really seen what it meant to be a man.”
His candid words shed light on the deep emotional void and psychological challenges he faced during his early years, offering a rare glimpse into the personal battles behind his successful public persona.
Boman Irani is set to appear in the upcoming ZEE5 original thriller Detective Sherdil, where he takes on the role of a father. When asked about portraying a paternal figure despite never having experienced a father’s presence in his own life, Irani reflected thoughtfully: “There is a void. I don’t know if it really means anything. I’m not trying to fill it in—and if I am, I’m not aware of it.” His introspective response highlights the subtle, perhaps subconscious ways his personal history may influence his performances.
Detective Sherdil, which had wrapped filming several years ago but was shelved for undisclosed reasons, finally premiered on ZEE5 on June 20. Set against the stunning backdrop of Budapest, the film blends mystery, comedy, and a quirky ensemble of characters, offering what promises to be a fun, family-friendly adventure. Alongside Boman Irani, the cast includes Sumeet Vyas, Diana Penty, Banita Sandhu, Chunky Panday, and Ratna Pathak Shah.
