R Madhavan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ayesha Raza Mishra, Manish Chaudhary, Namit Sharma, director Vivek Soni and Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh of Netflix attended the trailer of their film Aap Jaisa Koi in Mumbai. R Madhavan was in his element as he opened up about his choice of films and looks.
Aap Jaisa Koi trailer launch: “I am being accused of doing de-aging. But I don’t think I have the budget for that” – R Madhavan
R Madhavan began by saying, “I don’t think anybody can design the releases and the kind of projects that I have got. I ended up doing only 4 projects in 14 years, in terms of movies. My wife was like, ‘It’s enough. Get out. Make some money’! I had the good fortune of working with some very new directors or those who had made just 1 or 2 films before as it happened in the case of Kesari Chapter 2 (2025). They are bringing a completely fresh perspective to the storytelling. I find that very exciting and challenging. Secondly, they are finding me exciting and relevant. That’s what I am more excited about. I guess being out of sight for 14 years helps (laughs)!”
He joked, “I am being accused of doing de-aging! But I don’t think I have the budget for that (laughs).”
R Madhavan further said, “When I signed Saala Khadoos (2016), I approached a lot of dieticians and others who suggested how to lose weight, how I should eat at a particular time, etc. I really couldn’t resonate with it. Then I met an old-timer, who you’ll find in an akhara. He was not a sophisticated person. I told him, ‘I want to look like a boxer. I want to lose weight in the right way. What sort of diet I should opt for?’. He simply replied, ‘Input is equal to output. Khaana bandh karo. Patle ho jaaoge’. That’s all!”
He added, “From that day onwards, I only eat when I am hungry. I don’t eat on time. I only eat when I feel the hunger.”
Aap Jaisa Koi releases on Netflix on July 11.
