India and Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma struck the joint-fastest T20 hundred by an India batter, reaching a ton in just 28 balls during Punjab’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Meghalaya on Thursday.

Abhishek’s explosive knock, comprising 11 maximums, helped Punjab chase down the target of 143 runs in the 10th over.

Gujarat’s Urvil Patel had managed the record earlier in this tournament, managing a ton off 28 balls against Tripura in Indore. Before this year’s edition, the fastest hundred in India’s domestic T20 competition belonged to Rishabh Pant who struck a 32-ball hundred against Himachal Pradesh in 2018.

The record for the fastest hundred in T20 cricket belongs to Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan who scored it in just 27 deliveries against Cyprus.
