AUS vs IND, 2nd W-ODI: Perry, Voll star as Australia beats India by 122 runs to take unassailable 2-0 lead

Opener Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry centuries set up Australia women’s 122-run win over India in the second ODI at the Allen Border Field in Brisbane on Sunday. With the win, Australia also takes an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Chasing 372, India only managed to score 249 for nine with Priya Punia unable to bat due to an injury. Annabel Sutherland claimed four for 39 in 8.5 overs to finish the game inside 45 overs.

Richa Ghosh top-scored with 54 off 72 balls, opening the innings with Smriti Mandhana, who got out cheaply. Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues kept India’s hopes alive during their brief stay but the chase never got going thanks to tight bowling by the host.

ODI debutant Minnu Mani fought a lone battle with her 46 not out while the wickets fell from the other end.

Highlights

Earlier, after opting to bat, Australia smashed its highest total against India in the format courtesy of Voll (101 off 87 balls) and Perry’s (105 off 75 balls) attacking tons.

Voll added 130 runs with her opening partner Phoebe Litchfield, who also scored 60 off 63 balls, before adding another 92 runs with Perry for the second wicket.

Once Saima Thakor got Voll out – she had also removed Litchfield earlier -, Mooney joined Perry and duo scored 98 runs for the third wicket. Australia was looking set to cross the 400-run mark, but Deepti Sharma cleaned up Perry in the 44th over to trigger a mini-collapse.

Thakor finished with three for 62 while Minnu Mani claimed two for 71 in her nine overs.

From 320/3, the host was reduced to 350/8 inside five overs. However, Tahlia McGrath’s unbeaten 12-ball 20 took Australia to 371 for eight – the highest score Indian women’s team has conceded in ODIs.
