Cricket Australia announced on Tuesday that the tickets for day one of the fourth test between Australia and India in Melbourne have been sold out.
This is the first time in an Australian cricket summer, that the opening day of a non-Ashes Boxing Day Test at the 90,000-seater stadium will see a full-house.
The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series has seen a high demand for tickets from both sets of fans. The second Test at the Adelaide Oval recorded an attendance of over 36,000 on the first day, breaking a 12-year record at the venue.
Daily attendance milestones were also shattered, with the first two days welcoming 50,186 and 51,642 spectators respectively.
The opening two days at Optus Stadium also broke records for attendance at any Test match in the city, at 31,302 (Day 1) and 32,368 (Day 2), respectively.
The match, which lasted four days, saw 96,463 people go through the gates, the second-highest total attendance ever recorded in Perth and the highest at Perth Stadium, CA stated in a press release.
The five-match series is currently level at 1-1 with the third Test beginning on December 14 in Brisbane.
