In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, renowned film critic Taran Adarsh opened up about the current state of the film business and the intense competition among big releases. During the conversation, Adarsh also shared his thoughts on Chhaava, Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming film, and the much-anticipated Pushpa 2: The Rule.

Adarsh recalled an interesting moment when Chhaava was initially set to release alongside Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2. The clash was something that many industry insiders had been wary of, and Taran himself had advised Chhaava’s producer Dinesh Vijan to reconsider this decision.
“I loved the trailer of Chhaava, and in fact, it was supposed to clash with Pushpa 2. I am glad they didn’t go ahead with that clash,” Taran shared. He went on to explain that he had personally advised Vijan to avoid this head-to-head competition, as he felt Pushpa 2 was going to have a massive impact on the audience.
“I told him when I saw the trailer, now more than ever, I am sure that Chhaava is a solid product. The trailer looks good, and I asked him why he would want to risk it by clashing with Pushpa 2. If you have a product with great potential, why lower it by competing against a massive film like Pushpa 2? You could aim for Rs 200 or 300 crores, why take the risk?” Taran elaborated.
He further stated the potential drawbacks of a clash, particularly the limited number of screens and the negativity that can arise from such competition. “There would have been fewer shows, and unnecessary negativity would have surrounded it,” he added.
Taran also praised the overwhelming success of Pushpa 2, describing its impact as a “wave” that is evident in the theater response. He shared that, based on the feedback he’s seen from fans, the movie has created a massive buzz. “The reaction from people is unbelievable. I saw those YouTube videos and was amazed by the real response. I watched the film in a preview theater, but the audience reactions in a theater filled with 600-700 people were truly something else,” he said.
Speaking of Chhaava, it is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna and is scheduled to release on February 14, 2025.
