England captain Ben Stokes was forced off the field after suffering an injury during day three of the third Test against New Zealand in Seddon Park in Hamilton.

Stokes suffered an injury during his third over of the day and walked off the field clutching his hamstring.

He suffered a torn hamstring on the same left leg in August, forcing the 33-year-old to miss four Tests during a two-month recuperation period.

England released a statement saying Stokes was “currently receiving treatment for a left hamstring issue”.

“He will not return to the field in this innings and will undergo further assessment to determine his availability to bat in England’s second innings,” it added.

England has already sealed the series after winning the first and second Test at Christchurch and Wellington respectively

Looking to avoid a clean sweep at home, New Zealand powered to a lead of over 500 runs on the back of a Kane Williamson century.
