Ace batter Virat Kohli was ruled out of India’s 1st ODI against England in Nagpur on Thursday due to a knee injury.
This marks a rare occasion where Kohli missed out on a game due to an injury.
Here are some of the previous instances of this happening:
2017 vs Australia (Test)
Kohli had to sit out of the final Test of the 2017 Border-Gavaskar series due to a shoulder injury, which he sustained in the Ranchi Test.

Ajinkya Rahane replaced Kohli as the captain and led the side to a win in the Dharamshala Test, which secured the series victory for India.
2018 vs South Africa (T20I)
In 2018, Kohli missed out on another series decider, this time against South Africa in T20Is in Cape Town. A stiff back forced the Indian batter out as Rohit Sharma stepped in as skipper to lead India to a series win.
2022 vs South Africa (Test)
In 2022, an upper back spasm forced Kohli out of the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg. KL Rahul filled in as captain, as the home team gathered a seven-wicket win.
