Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently opened up about his daughter Sunaina Roshan’s long battle with cervical cancer, brain tuberculosis, and liver disease. In an interview with News18, he revealed how her resilience and positivity inspired him during his struggles, including his throat cancer diagnosis in 2019 and a shooting incident in 2000. Rakesh also credited his wife, Pinkie Roshan, for being his unwavering support system throughout his career and personal challenges.

Sunaina Roshan’s Resilience Inspires Rakesh
Rakesh Roshan shared that Sunaina’s ability to face multiple health challenges with courage and a smile left a profound impact on him. “She went through a lot of illnesses and surgeries right since her childhood. But she has always been very brave and used to laugh in the face of hardships. She has always been a very happy person, and that taught me a lot. I believe that no matter what the situation is, we should be happy and content,” he said. Sunaina’s positive outlook helped Rakesh navigate his own health battles and the traumatic shooting incident in 2000.
Dealing with Personal Struggles
Rakesh Roshan recalled how he maintained a light-hearted approach even during the most challenging times. “I took it very lightly even when I got shot. I used to joke with them even then so that they don’t feel that life is going towards a darker space. I did the same thing when I got cancer. Hrithik (Roshan) and I were working out on the morning of the day I was going for my surgery,” he added. His ability to stay positive was deeply influenced by Sunaina’s attitude toward life.
Pinkie Roshan: A Pillar of Support
Rakesh also expressed gratitude toward his wife, Pinkie Roshan, for standing by him through thick and thin. “She married me when I was earning Rs 200 as an AD. She took up 80 percent of the burden and said that she’s happy with me,” he shared. Pinkie’s unwavering support was crucial during Rakesh’s professional struggles and personal hardships, including his cancer diagnosis.
Launching Hrithik Roshan in Bollywood
The filmmaker also reflected on his decision to launch his son, Hrithik Roshan, as an actor. “I joined the industry as an assistant when I was 21, and that’s also a very young age. So, I told myself that when Hrithik is 24 or 25, only then will I launch him as an actor, and that’s what I did,” Rakesh said. Hrithik’s debut in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai marked the beginning of a successful career in Bollywood.
