The 2025 edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will commence from February 14 with defending champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Gujarat Giants in Vadodara’s new BCA Stadium.

While some of the sides have stayed with the existing skippers, there are a few new names which have been given the task to lead their teams.

Here are the captains for the Women’s Premier League 2025:

Women’s Premier League 2025 captains

Royal Challengers Bengaluru – Smriti Mandhana

Mumbai Indians – Harmanpreet Kaur

Delhi Capitals – Meg Lanning

Gujarat Giants – Ashleigh Gardner

UP Warriorz – Deepti Sharma

While RCB, MI, and DC have stuck with the successful trio of Smriti, Harmanpreet, and Lanning to continue leading their respective sides, injuries and conscious decisions have made the other two sides change captaincy.

Australia skipper Alyssa Healy was ruled out of the upcoming season due to a recurring foot injury which particularly flared up during the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and during India’s ODI tour Down Under last year. This led to the franchise handing over the reins to experienced India international Deepti Sharma.

On the other hand, for Gujarat Giants, Gardner will lead the side this season after Beth Mooney was said to be focussing on her role as wicketkeeper and opening batter.

The two editions of the WPL so far have seen Indian captains emerge victorious, with Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians winning the inaugural edition and Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifting the title last season.
