Mumbai Indians has added Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman to its squad for the IPL 2025 as a replacement of Allah Ghazanfar. He joins MI for Rs. 2 crore.
Ghazanfar was ruled out of the tournament due to a fracture in the L4 vertebra, sidelining him for at least four months due to which he will be missing the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 as well.
The 18-year-old spinner, who was acquired by MI for Rs. 4.80 crore, is said to have sustained the injury during Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe.
The newly acquired Mujeeb returns to IPL after missing the previous season due to an injury. Interestingly, it was Ghazanfar who replaced him in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad.
Mujeeb has so far played 19 matches in the tournament and last featured in IPL 2021 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Before, he played three seasons with Punjab Kings (PBKS).
He was one of the youngest ever players to have represented Afghanistan and made an instant impact with the ball leading to an IPL debut at the age of 17.
