In a recent chat with Galatta Plus, Ayushmann Khurrana reflected on his childhood, crediting his father for shaping his confidence while acknowledging generational differences in parenting. Laughing off the topic of physical discipline as a “normal thing” back then, he was asked if it contributed to his underconfidence. He responded, “I don’t know, but I became a people pleaser, maybe because of that. I can’t say no.” Despite the tough love, he appreciated his father’s dedication to his growth, ensuring he honed his skills in acting, singing, and performing.
Ayushmann revealed that his father constantly encouraged him to take the stage, turning a shy boy with stage fright into a versatile entertainer. From birthday parties to school events, his father insisted he perform—a practice that ultimately shaped his journey to success. “He is the reason I am here,” Ayushmann admitted.
In an earlier appearance on the Honestly Saying podcast, Ayushmann described his father as a “dictator,” recalling instances of strict discipline, including physical punishment—something he now recognizes as childhood trauma. His younger brother, actor Aparshakti Khurana, also shared a memorable incident where their father disciplined him with a cricket bat for disrespecting his coach.
While parenting has evolved, Ayushmann’s reflections underscore the duality of his father’s influence—strict yet deeply committed to his children’s success. P Khurana, who passed away in 2023, left a lasting legacy, not just as an astrologer but as a father whose relentless push helped shape two successful artists in the industry.
