The Hindi version of the acclaimed Malayalam film Footage (2024) will be released nationwide on March 7. A few days before the release, a five-minute footage of Footage was shown to mediapersons in Mumbai by its team – actors Manju Warrier, Vishak Nair, Gayathri Ashok, co-writer Shabna Mohammed and director Saiju Sreedharan and director-editor-producer-co writer Saiju Sreedharan. Anurag Kashyap, who presented Footage in Malayalam and is now helping it release in Hindi, also made his presence felt and stole the show with his quotes.
SHOCKING: Anurag Kashyap reveals why his Mumbai house is “full of CCTV cameras and resembles a fortress”: “A guy landed up at my door and said, ‘I just lost my father. I want to audition for you’; I replied, ‘How can you use that to corner me?’”
During the course of the conversation, Anurag Kashyap said, “I moved down South when I was not working. I feel happy there. In Mumbai, your time goes into unnecessary things. I want to read. Beti ki shaadi ho gayi hai! I want to spend more time on myself. Dekho kitna difference aa gaya hai. My health has got so much better.”
He also remarked, “Everybody knows my address. There used to be a time when there would be a queue of people outside my house. Actors would land in Mumbai and would be like, ‘Which director wants to work with newcomers?’. Everyone would say, ‘Anurag’. And everybody wants to tell everyone else, ‘This is his house’!”
Anurag revealed a shocking incident. He said, “One day, I was unwell. A guy rang my doorbell. I opened the door and saw him crying. I asked him, ‘What happened? How did you come inside?’. He told me, ‘Sir, you don’t understand. I just lost my father’. Then he said, ‘I want to audition for you’. I informed him that I wasn’t doing any auditions at that point and that I was not well. I further told him, ‘This is not my office. This is (my) home’. He still maintained, ‘Sir, you don’t understand. I just lost my father. I want to audition for you’. I replied, ‘I am sorry you lost your father. But that doesn’t mean you could walk into my house’. He retorted, ‘Sir, don’t you have any empathy? I have lost my father’. I replied, ‘But how can you use that to corner me? I don’t even know you’. He refused to leave.”
Anurag Kashyap continued, “After this incident, I got handlocks on all the doors. My house is now full of cameras. It resembles a fortress! I have removed the doorbell (laughs). I know through the cameras ki bahar kaun khada hai and whether or not I should open the door.”
Anurag Kashyap’s collection of DVDs is envious. When asked about its status now that he has shifted, he replied, “It’ll now get divided. Both houses now have a screening room.”
