Veteran actor Deb Mukherjee, a prominent figure in Indian cinema and father of renowned filmmaker Ayan Mukerji, passed away on March 14 at the age of 83. He had been unwell and was hospitalized, where he breathed his last at 9:30 AM. His funeral took place the same evening at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai.

Deb Mukherjee was a cherished member of the illustrious Mukherjee-Samarth family, which includes notable figures like his niece, actress Kajol, and her cousin, actress Rani Mukerji. In the wake of his passing, Kajol expressed her deep sorrow on social media, sharing a heartfelt tribute to her beloved uncle. She posted a photograph of them together during a Durga Puja celebration, a festival that held special significance in their family traditions. In her emotional note, Kajol wrote: “Tradition said that every Durga Puja we would click pictures together. When we were all dressed up and looking good. I’m still adjusting to the thought of a world without him. To one of the finest men that I’ve ever known. Rest in peace. You will be loved, remembered and missed every day of my life.”
The funeral was attended by close family members and friends, including actress Jaya Bachchan. The Mukherjee family’s legacy in Bollywood is extensive, and Deb Mukherjee’s passing marks the end of an era for the film fraternity.
Deb Mukherjee’s career in the film industry was marked by versatility and dedication. His contributions to Indian cinema spanned several decades, with memorable roles in films such as Abhinetri and Kaminey.
