Karan Johar, Gippy Grewal, Nimrat Khaira, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Apoorva Mehta and others launched the trailer of their film Akaal. The film is significant as it is Dharma Productions’ first Punjabi film. As expected, Karan Johar, during the question-and-answer round with the media, was asked about his recent film Nadaaniyan and the criticism it has faced from the audience and critics alike.
Akaal trailer launch: Karan Johar, Gippy Grewal talk about criticism over Nadaaniyan: “Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna…even Saif Ali Khan must have got such comments for his debut film but today, no one can question his performance”
Karan Johar began by saying, “I’d only like to quote a song line, ‘Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna. Choda bekaar ki baatein. Kahin beet na jaaye raina’!”
Gippy Grewal added, “This (criticism) is important. When I began, many questioned me as well. When we made Carry On Jatta, a lot of people remarked, ‘Yeh toh aise lage hai ki Rs. 100 crores kar denge’. But we managed to do it (collect Rs. 100 crores). Hence, I believe that aisa kuch nahin hai. These comments can boost you. Of course, one will get upset when they read such comments. But you can also feel ‘Ab toh main kar ke dikhaunga’.”
He continued, “Ours is a small industry and we also dreamed of making good films. We always thought that if we release our film in Hindi, we should be associated with a producer jiske saath baithne mein humein bhi garv hoga. Today, we are sitting with Dharma Productions people.”
Gippy Grewal then spoke about Nadaaniyan’s lead actors, Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan and the latter’s father, Saif Ali Khan, “Ibrahim and Khushi are new kids. Some may or may not have liked their work. Saif sir ki pehli film aayi hogi, tab bhi aisa bola hoga. But today, no one can question his performance. Hence, this is very common. It’s a part of life.”
Akaal releases in cinemas on April 10, 2025.
