Ajinkya Rahane was named Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season as the franchise looks to defend its title.
The 36-year-old is set to become the team’s ninth captain and take over the reigns of the team from Shreyas Iyer, who has moved to Punjab Kings.
The team’s longest-serving captain is Gautam Gambhir, who led the side in 122 matches between 2011 and 2017. KKR won the IPL twice under his leadership (2012 & 2014). Apart from the three championships, KKR has advanced to the playoffs thrice under Gambhir’s leadership (2011, 2016, 2017).
While KKR has won the most number of matches (69) under Gambhir’s captaincy, Iyer has the best win/loss ratio (1.54).
