Sooraj Barjatya had an interesting conversation with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day, during which he spoke about his films, his journey and also that of his production house, Rajshri Productions, started by his grandfather, Tarachand Barjatya. Sooraj confessed in this discussion that his 2003 film Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon was a film out of his comfort zone and he was not comfortable with it. Another film in which he moved slightly away from his sensibility was Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015). It was the last time he and Salman Khan came together. It also starred Sonam K Ahuja, Armaan Kohli, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Swara Bhasker and was essentially a story of estranged siblings.
Sooraj Barjatya CONFESSES what went wrong with Salman Khan-starrer Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: “I don’t like to see the climax. I would have done it much more gracefully”
Sooraj Barjatya said, “I went to him (Salman Khan) with the first version of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. We are at a stage where we can see through each other. He heard it and said, ‘Sooraj babu, why are we complicating it?’. I reasoned, ‘Salman bhai, your image is so big’. He replied, ‘Kaayka image?’! He insisted that we should keep it simple. Yet, I put some action into it as I also wanted to serve his audience (laughs).”
He then remarked, “I tried to play a little safe. Whenever I have played safe, I have always (faltered). I realized I added action just for the sake of (pleasing his audience). Armaan holding a gun on a motorboat…I feel I should have not done it. I would have made it a straight emotional affair.”
He also said, “It did well but when I look at it, I don’t like to see the climax. I would have done it much more gracefully.”
