Noted singer and music composer Amit Trivedi is set to enthrall the Narendra Modi Stadium crowd with his chartbusters ahead of Gujarat Titans’ opening fixture against Punjab Kings on Tuesday.

As part of the Indian Premier League’s plan of hosting opening ceremonies across all the venues to celebrate the 18th edition of the T20 league, a 20-minute cultural programme, featuring Trivedi will be held just after the toss.

“To mark Ahmedabad’s first match of the season, he will perform between 7pm and 7.20pm and a couple of other celebrities could also join in to make the event memorable,” a source, aware of the development, told  Sportstar.

The 45-year-old Trivedi is popular for experimenting with a range of styles in his music, and has delivered several hits over the years.

While Trivedi’s performance will be one of the major highlights of the evening, both Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings will be hoping to get their campaign off to a winning start. With another high-scoring game on the cards, it will be a test of character for the batting units of both the teams.

Punjab aims to start afresh

After reaching the city late on Saturday, Punjab Kings trained at the main ground on Sunday evening. With its co-owner Ness Wadia in town, a team lunch was organised at the hotel, where the owners interacted with the players and the management ahead of the session.

Ahead of training, Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer had a closer look at the surface before he settled in for a long batting stint in the nets.

With no injury concerns plaguing the team at the moment, Punjab Kings hopes to start afresh under a new captain and a new head coach in Ricky Ponting, and as Marcus Stoinis, one of the key members of the team pointed out, the team’s ultimate target is to break the title jinx.

‘No baggage’

“There’s no baggage for this team. I can understand that there are talks from the outside about the history of the franchise. But if I were the owner of the team and I was looking at this new group, I would know there’s no reason for us to have any baggage about not winning in the past,” Stoinis told this publication, adding: “It’s a fresh start. It’s a new group…”

For Gujarat Titans, too, it will be about bouncing back after a forgettable outing last season. The home team had an optional session on Sunday and a handful of fans who waited patiently to catch a glimpse of the cricketers ensured that the home team had maximum support.

Despite it being a weekday, the demand for tickets are high for Gujarat Titans’ opening game, and for the Shubman Gill-led side, it will be a challenge to ensure that they give the fans something to cheer for.
