Shreyas Iyer was left stranded on 97 at the end of Punjab Kings’ innings during the IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

Shashank Singh slammed 44 off 16 balls including a 23-run last over and didn’t give Iyer the strike throughout the over.

Iyer remained unbeaten on 97 off 42 balls – now his highest score in the tournament – during which he hit nine sixes and five fours. Had he managed to reach his hundred, it would’ve been his first in the IPL.

During the mid innings interview, Shashank revealed to broadcasters that Iyer asked him not to worry about his century and score freely.

“Let me be very honest – Shreyas, from ball one, said don’t worry about my hundred,” Shashank said.

In the 19th over, Iyer gave the strike to Shashank off the fifth delivery and his partner took a single off the last ball to keep the strike for the last over.

PBKS finished on 243 for five, its second highest score in the IPL history.
