Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Kriti Sanon, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Bhumi Pednekar, Rajkummar Rao, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Sharvari, Vaani Kapoor, Karan Johar, Pritam Chakraborty, A R Rahman, Wamiqa Gabbi, Diana Penty, Vikrant Massey, Ananya Panday, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Sara Ali Khan and many others attended the grand bash on April 7 held by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films to celebrate his production house’s unbeatable and successful run. Maddock is the only banner to have given two Rs. 500 crores grossers in the form of Stree 2 and Chhaava. Their other films like Munjya also did well and moreover, there’s a tremendous excitement for their upcoming films. As a result, the who’s who of the industry came out in full force to be a part of these celebrations.
Inside the STAR-STUDDED Maddock Films success bash: Vicky Kaushal, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Rajkummar Rao, Laxman Utekar HAIL Dinesh Vijan: “Aap kabhi calculator leke nahin baithte…today, producers are like, ‘Dinoo jaisa producer banna hai’…he has CHANGED the face of Indian Cinema”
Bollywood Hungama was present at the bash and it was a memorable one especially the part where Dinesh Vijan gave a speech and gave credit for the success to the writers and directors. As expected, the directors making films for Maddock at present like Laxman Utekar, Amar Kaushik, Aditya Sarpotdar, Sriram Raghavan, Tushar Jalota, Kunal Deshmukh, Homi Adajania, etc. were in high spirits.
Dinesh Vijan was the first one to give a speech and he said, “You need to have a strong base camp. And my base camp is my wife, Pramita. Thank you! No matter where I am, I always want to be at home with you.”
He also credited his associates Poonam Shivdasani, Pooja Vijan and Sharada Karki Jalota and added, “In my journey, I have been surrounded with Strees, that too, all the right ones! That’s why I guess Stree has been such a special film for me. But what I feel has played a monumental role for me are my writers and directors. They are the ones who built this company. With us, it’s always the film that comes first. We are not from this business and we found this space only because of our writers and directors. A big round of applause to all of them!”
He remarked, “People feel that we have some formula. But the fact is that we choose stories that we cannot not make.” He also acknowledged that things get maddening in his office before the release of the film and added, “I know it’s crazy but when that film lands and when that film makes us feel in a theatre the way it does, nothing else can. And that’s why, we are all here.”
Dinesh Vijan also thanked his partners saying, “If Jyoti Deshpande (of Jio Studios) had not decided to back Stree, we would have had a problem. If Netflix didn’t back our films, we wouldn’t have been here. Thank you, Amazon. You came when we needed you the most and I’ll always remember that. We had a good run with 3 films. I hope we have a long journey with everybody.”
The gorgeous Kriti Sanon came next and she reacted to the reel, showcasing Maddock’s previous and upcoming films. She said, “How many films have I done with Maddock? I was present in every third frame shown in the reel! I have done 7 films and will be starting my eighth film with Maddock very soon.” Talking about Dinesh, she said, “He believed me when no one did. There were questions like ‘Why her?’.”
She also reacted to the fact that she played a ‘bhediya’ (in Bhediya), a surrogate mother (in Mimi) and a robot (in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya), “As you can see, we at Maddock always do things hatke. My relatives have now started saying, ‘Maddock ki film hai toh acchi hogi’.!”
As expected, Varun Dhawan gave an entertaining speech. He said, “Earlier, people used to say, ‘Tum Dinoo ke dost ho?’ (with disinterest). Now, they say, ‘Tum Dinoo ke dost ho?’ (with admiration)! I am not here as Dinoo is the best producer in the industry. These things change. I am here because Dinoo is the best friend someone can have! He’s the best son, father and husband.”
Vicky Kaushal began his speech on an interesting note saying, “I always feel that speech at a party is like a pineapple in a dish! They are sweet but they destroy the dish! So, I’ll keep my speech very short.”
He noted, “Dinoo sir told me, ‘Making Chhaava with you on paper doesn’t make sense’. I thank him for the honesty because it gave me the push I needed. So, here’s to making more films that don’t make sense on paper. We’ll let the audience prove the notion wrong!”
Laxman Utekar got a roaring response when he came on stage. His speech raised the maximum laughs and claps. He said, “If Dinesh Vijan had gone by mathematics, this film would have not been made. Aap woh producer ho, jo kabhi calculator leke nahin baithte!”
He then talked about his camaraderie with Homi Adajania, “He is the purest person I have ever seen.” The ever-smiling Homi shouted, “I love you, baby!”
Laxman then narrated an incident when Homi Adajania lost when a part of a coconut tree next to Maddock was pruned, which led Homi to shower a volley of abuses. Laxman quipped, “Saying f**k for him is as normal as breathing for any other human being!” He further amused attendees when he revealed that Homi gifted him a lighter once.
Homi Adajania, as expected, gave a quirky speech, reminiscing about making Being Cyrus (2006), the debut venture of Dinesh Vijan. He said, “Dinoo was a producer trapped in a banker’s body. You’ve been f**king fearless in this journey. I consider you, my brother.”
He then joked, “Since Maddock has done very well, all the guests will get a voucher worth Rs. 1 crore!”
Sriram Raghavan joked and compared Dinesh Vijan to The Great Gambler as he gambled on unconventional ideas. Amar Kaushik talked about his first meeting with Dinesh and how he was warned that he is “adiyal, akdu and mad”. Amar said, “I showed him my short film. He told me, ‘Bahut acchi film hai. Aisi film nahin banani hai’!”
He continued, “It made me realize how important it is for somebody to be so honest. That’s his biggest strength. More than a producer, he is my brother and he’s like family to me. I hate Sundays as that’s the day I don’t go to the Maddock office! We are all Maddockians!”
Rajkummar Rao was the last one and he exulted, “It’s not Dinesh Vijan, its Dinesh Vision! Today, producers are like, ‘Dinoo jaisa producer banna hai’! He has changed the face of Indian Cinema.”
The dialogue ‘Bicky, pleej’, which involves Rajkummar Rao, is quite legendary. He referred to it when he said, “Dinoo pleej, keep telling such stories. We need you for the betterment of cinema and filmmaking. We are all there with you!”
The others who made it to the party were Jyoti Deshpande, Divya Dutta, Sunny Kaushal, Aparshakti Khurana, Anya Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Manushi Chhillar, Mohit Raina, Varun Sharma, Radhikka Madan, Deepak Dobriyal, Imtiaz Ali, Triptii Dimri, Mrunal Thakur, Lakshya, Aditya Roy Kapur, Luv Ranjan, Anand Pandit, Irshad Kamil, Tisca Chopra, Jaideep Ahlawat, Jayantilal Gada, Veer Pahariya, Supriya Pathak, Dimple Kapadia, Zaheer Iqbal, Agastya Nanda, Nimrat Kaur, Suhail Nayyar, Mahaveer Jain, Sanjay Chatar, etc.
