Ibrahim Ali Khan, who recently made his acting debut with Naadaniyaan, has opened up about facing online backlash and the intense scrutiny that followed his first film. In a candid interview with Filmfare, the young actor, son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, addressed a recent controversy involving a Pakistani journalist and admitted he is learning how to handle public criticism.
Ibrahim Ali Khan reflects on controversial reaction to criticism over Naadaniyaan debut
The incident began when a Pakistani journalist criticised Ibrahim’s acting skills and made personal remarks about his physical appearance, particularly his nose. In response, Ibrahim reportedly sent a direct message to the journalist on social media that included strong language and a threat. He wrote – “Tamur almost like Taimur .. you got my brothers name. Guess what you don’t got? His face. You ugly piece of trash, since you can’t keep your words to yourself don’t bother, they’re irrelevant just like you. Ugly goddamn piece of s**t I feel bad for you and your family – and if I see you on the streets one day, I’ll make sure I leave you uglier than you are – you walking piece of scum.”
Reflecting on the incident, Ibrahim told Filmfare, “I know I shouldn’t have reacted but I’m also new to public scrutiny. When he made that personal comment about my body, it felt like a below-the-belt remark. But going forward, I’ll be more composed. I shouldn’t have reacted. It won’t happen again.”
The Naadaniyaan actor acknowledged that the incident gained traction quickly, with many criticising him for the harsh response rather than the original comment. He admitted that being in the spotlight comes with its challenges and that he has a long way to go in learning how to deal with the pressures of fame. “Social media is a hateful world, right now,” Ibrahim said. “They tried to twist it a lot. Sure, as a lead actor, I have to bring in loads more than what I did. I know I can bring it, and I am confident that I will bring it in my future projects. But I’m happy with what it was.”
Naadaniyaan, also starring Khushi Kapoor as the leading lady, marked Ibrahim’s debut in a leading role and was met with a mixed response. As he navigates early stardom, the young actor appears committed to growth—both on screen and off.
