Hi Laksh, how did you bring in your birthday?
Last night, a couple of my closest friends came over to my house with a cake. We did a quiet bring-in celebration. It was simple, sweet — just how I like it. We couldn’t do much since I had a shoot the next day. But I plan to go out with them today and celebrate properly.
Laksh Lalwani celebrates first birthday post-Kill: “This year, so many more people remembered me”
Your first birthday after the success of Kill. How does it feel?
Hi sir, I hope you’re doing well. A lot has changed after my first film. Kill gave me the kind of validation and confidence I was looking for. It’s a great feeling when people recognize you because of your work. I remember last year, maybe 20–25 people wished me on my birthday. This year, it was 100–200! That kind of love and respect means a lot. It’s overwhelming, in the best way.
Would you say one film changed your life?
Absolutely. Everything that’s happening now is because of the work I put into Kill, and the love people gave it. Being remembered and celebrated on your birthday because of something you created — it’s special. I want to use that as motivation and keep working harder, so that next year, even more people think of me on this day. And yes sir, the film is still doing very well. That adds to the happiness.
What’s it like shooting for Chand Mera Dil with Ananya Panday?
We’re about halfway through the shoot, and I’m having a lot of fun. Ananya is a wonderful co-actor — extremely helpful and talented. What I appreciate most is her emotional intelligence and how grounded she is. She doesn’t take herself too seriously, but she takes the work seriously. She comes prepared, delivers beautifully, and is a treat to work with.
Any childhood birthday memories that stand out?
Yes — there’s one that I’ll never forget. I was in 9th or 10th standard. My dad was travelling and told me he couldn’t be home for my birthday. But it turned out to be a surprise he was planning for me.Around midnight, I was asleep when he came into my room, turned on the light, and started singing “Happy Birthday” with a cake in his hands. We used to get cakes from Moti Sweets back then — a cake worth ₹150, which felt like a luxury. It was a big deal, and that moment made me feel so loved. It’s one of my most special memories.
What’s your birthday wish this year?
To keep working — and to stay happy. Nothing makes me happier than being on a film set. The best gift I’ve received this year is the opportunity to be working on my birthday. I hope every birthday from here on is spent on set, doing what I love. And thank you so much, sir, for reaching out. Wishing you all the best as well.
