Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Rovman Powell said there was a good chance that captain and the side’s leading run-scorer Ajinkya Rahane would play against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

“He (Rahane) has shown improvement over the last few days. He has started batting, that is a good sign. It’s important for us to have him, he has been one of our batters who have been shining lights. Credit to the medical staff, they are working extremely hard with him in ensuring that he is available for tomorrow’s match,” said Powell.

Powell said his team would like to carry forward the momentum it gathered from its win over Delhi Capitals. “It’s for us to take one match at a time. We have to try our best to dissect them (RR) and see our best.”

Taking a cue from Mumbai Indians’ tactics to dismiss Vaibhav Suryavanshi cheaply, Powell said KKR would work similarly against the promising RR teenager.

RR bowling coach Shane Bond spoke about RR’s homework. “We’ve gone through their batters today and there are some patterns and things in the way we want to attack them. We’ve still got to be good enough to do that, especially in hot conditions,” said Bond.

“Regardless of whether you’re in the competition or not, you’ve got the RR badge on your chest… So that energy and intensity is expected from the players regardless of the points table,” said Bond.
