Singer Rahul Vaidya has ignited a social media storm by taking a swipe at cricket icon Virat Kohli and his legion of fans, labelling them “2 kaudi ke jokers” (worthless jokers) in a video posted on Instagram. The remarks come in the wake of a controversy involving Kohli’s accidental “like” on a post by actress Avneet Kaur, which has fuelled speculation and online trolling.

The saga began on 30 April 2025, when fans noticed that Kohli’s verified Instagram account had liked a post from a fan page featuring Kaur, known for her roles in Indian television and Bollywood. The cricketer swiftly unliked the post and issued a clarification on 2 May, attributing the interaction to an “algorithm glitch” and urging fans to avoid “unnecessary assumptions.” Despite his explanation, the incident sparked a flurry of memes, with some netizens humorously linking it to Kohli’s wife, actress Anushka Sharma.

Vaidya, a former Indian Idol contestant and reality TV star, escalated the drama by sharing a video on his Instagram Stories. In it, he claimed that Kohli had blocked him on the platform, jokingly suggesting that this, too, might be an “Instagram glitch.” He remarked, “So, guys, Virat Kohli has blocked me, as you all know. I think that too is an Instagram glitch. Instagram’s algorithm must have told Virat, ‘Let me block Rahul Vaidya on your behalf.’ Right?” The singer’s sarcastic tone and subsequent posts, including one calling Kohli’s fans “even bigger jokers than Virat,” drew sharp reactions.
Kohli’s fanbase retaliated with a barrage of online trolling, some of which targeted Vaidya’s wife, actress Disha Parmar, and his sister. In response, Vaidya doubled down, posting, “You are abusing my wife, my sister—who have nothing to do with this! So I was right. That’s why you all Virat Kohli fans are jokers! 2 kaudi ke jokers.” The phrase, a Hindi idiom implying worthlessness, has since trended across social media platforms.
