The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to remove Rohit Sharma as captain of India’s Test team, with a new skipper set to take charge for the upcoming tour of England next month. It remains uncertain whether Rohit will be included in the squad as a specialist opening batsman.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the national selectors have decided to move forward with a new leader for the side.

Rohit’s form has been a concern, particularly during India’s recent tour of Australia, where he struggled with the bat, averaging a mere 6.20 in five innings. He also chose to drop himself for the final Test of that series. His performance in the previous home Test series against New Zealand was similarly disappointing, with an average of just 15.16 over three matches.

Rohit has an overall Test average of 40.57 from 67 matches. However, his performance outside India has been less impressive, with an average of 31.01 in overseas Tests. His struggles in Australia and South Africa are evident, where he averages just 24.38 and 16.63, respectively. On the other hand, Rohit has shown notable form in England, where his average rises to 44.66.
