With the incumbent Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny turning 70 next month, Rajeev Shukla could take over as the interim chief for three months.
According to the BCCI constitution, an office-bearer cannot be in office beyond 70, and that makes Binny, a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, ineligible for the role after July 19.
Shukla, who is currently the vice-president of the Board and is the senior-most office-bearer in the current regime, will oversee the duties of the president until a new chief is elected.
Shukla has held the position of the BCCI vice president since late 2020. He has also served as the Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association till 2017 and the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) till 2018.
