Aamir Khan recently offered a candid glimpse into his complex relationship with his parents. He reflected on the deep emotions tied to their love, the discipline of a strict upbringing, and the challenges posed by financial hardships. Over time, he said, they managed to find understanding and reconciliation. Aamir also shared how these formative experiences shaped his personality, influenced his career decisions, and impacted the way he approaches his own family and relationships today.
Aamir Khan opens up challenging relationship with his father; says, “I would get prints of his hand on our faces”
In an interview with Zee Music, Aamir Khan spoke warmly about his mother, Zeenat Hussain, describing her as a pillar of support and gentleness throughout his life. He shared, “I have never heard my mother raise her voice. Me and Faisal (his brother) would have a lot of fun as kids, so she would just say, ‘Aamir, aap aisa karenge?’ This was the maximum that she would scold us.” His words highlighted the quiet strength and nurturing nature of his mother’s influence on him.
However, Aamir Khan admitted that his relationship with his father, filmmaker Tahir Hussain, was much more challenging. Reflecting on his childhood, he shared, “My father and my mother were very different personalities. Faisal and I would get prints of his hand on our faces. We would get slapped with the back of his hand; he used to wear a ring, and that ring would leave a mark on our face. So the next day, when we would go to school, it would be very embarrassing.”
Aamir Khan acknowledged that he never had a particularly close bond with his father, Tahir Hussain. Over the years, their relationship became increasingly distant, particularly following a 2007 custody battle involving his brother Faisal and ongoing disagreements over financial issues. These tensions prompted Aamir to distance himself further, deepening the rift between him and his father.
Despite years of tension and emotional distance, Aamir Khan and his father, Tahir Hussain, eventually reconciled before Tahir’s passing from a heart attack on February 2, 2010. Aamir, who was abroad when it happened, returned to Mumbai immediately. Since then, he has often reflected on their relationship through memories and tributes, acknowledging his father’s influence and the role he played in shaping Aamir’s life and journey.
On the work front, Aamir Khan is gearing up for his return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to his critically acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. The upcoming project, a remake of the Spanish film Campeones, features Aamir alongside Genelia Deshmukh. It will also mark the debut of several fresh faces in Hindi cinema, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, among others.
