Rishabh Pant became the second wicketkeeper-batter ever to score two hundred in a Test match during India’s opener against England at Headingley in Leeds on Monday.
Andy Flower of Zimbabwe was the first to do so, scoring two hundreds (142 & 199*) against South Africa at Harare in 2001.
The 27-year-old now has the highest match aggregate for an Indian wicketkeeper-batter, breaking Budhi Kunderan’s record of 230 vs England in Chennai in 1964.
Pant also becomes the seventh Indian to bring up twin hundreds in a Test, joining an elite list of players including Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Hazare, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane.
In the first innings, he had gone past M.S. Dhoni’s record of most tons in the longest format by an Indian wicketkeeper when he brought up his seventh century — Pant scored 134 off 178, smashing 12 fours and six sixes.
