FWICE accuses Border 2 team of violating its ‘official directive’ by casting Diljit Dosanjh: “The core workforce of the Indian film and television industry is deeply disappointed” 2 : Bollywood News

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), the union representing core film and television workers, has formally written to the team behind the upcoming patriotic sequel Border 2, expressing deep disappointment over the casting of actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh.

FWICE accuses Border 2 team of violating its ‘official directive’ by casting Diljit Dosanjh: “The core workforce of the Indian film and television industry is deeply disappointed”

The FWICE has issued a letter addressed to Bhushan Kumar (Chairman & Managing Director, T-Series), producers JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta of JP Films, and director Anurag Singh.

The strongly worded letter read, “The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), representing the core workforce of the Indian film and television industry, is deeply disappointed and concerned by the casting of actor-singer Mr Diljit Dosanjh in your upcoming film Border 2 produced under the banner of JP Films in collaboration with T-Series and directed by Mr Anurag Singh.”

In the same letter, FWICE criticized Dosanjh’s previous collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3, labelling the casting in Border 2 “a blatant violation of FWICE’s official directive” to boycott Mr Diljit Dosanjh, which was issued after his unpatriotic act of working with a Pakistani actress, Ms Hania Aamir. The letter added, “By choosing to collaborate with an artist who has so brazenly ignored the ongoing tensions and national sentiment, your production has directly undermined the stand taken by the Indian film industry in solidarity with the nation.”

The letter further elaborated, “FWICE has time and again made its position clear-we will not accept or tolerate any cooperation or collaboration with Pakistani artists in any form or on any platform. Such actions are a disservice to the sacrifices made by our armed forces and citizens who continue to face the consequences of cross-border hostilities and terrorism.”

The union also found it “disturbing” that Border 2, a film meant to honour the valour of Indian soldiers, included Dosanjh—an actor they claim “has recently chosen to prioritize personal gain over national respect by associating with talent from a hostile nation.” This, FWICE argued, “not only defeats the spirit of the film but also sends a disheartening message to every Indian.”

FWICE concluded with a firm plea stating, “We hereby request you to immediately reconsider your casting decision. FWICE urges you to stand by the nation and the industry’s collective stand. Let us reiterate-for us, the nation comes first, and we expect the same unwavering commitment from every respected member of the film fraternity.”

This scandal comes at a sensitive time. Following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 Indian civilians, tensions between India and Pakistan have surged. The FWICE had earlier demanded that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) oppose Sardaar Ji 3’s release in India due to its inclusion of Pakistani artists, a move that echoed public outrage, especially after Hania Aamir’s appearance in the film’s trailer and poster.

Despite calls for Diljit’s removal from Border 2, the project appears to be moving ahead. According to earlier announcements, Diljit was officially welcomed by Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan into the cast—a decision shared to widespread applause on social media.
