Shikhar Dhawan tells all in candid memoir The One: Cricket, My Life and More

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has launched his memoir, The One : Cricket, My Life and More, offering an unfiltered account of a life spent in the public eye and the many private challenges that shaped him.

Published by HarperCollins India, the book traces Dhawan’s journey from Delhi’s cricketing circuits to the international stage. Known for his flamboyant strokeplay and infectious persona, Dhawan recounts pivotal moments in his career and life — including selection setbacks, personal controversies, and his mental battles during trying times. He also reflects on his transformation from a young wicketkeeper to one of India’s most successful opening batsmen.

“This is me sharing that journey from the heart — raw, honest and unfiltered,” Dhawan said.

With contributions from teammates such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh, The One blends humour, honesty, and vulnerability. An excerpt from the book recalls a turning point in his career linked to off-field scrutiny during an Australia tour, highlighting the pressures of being under constant public and institutional gaze.

“Shikhar has opened up about his life, cricket, relationships, and every curveball that he faced and emerged stronger,” said Sachin Sharma, Publisher, HarperCollins India.

Dhawan’s story, both on and off the pitch, is told with candour, making The One not just a cricketer’s memoir, but a human story of resilience, reinvention, and reflection.
