Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s quickfire 48 followed by Abhigyan Kundu’s unbeaten 45 helped India Under-19s begin the five-match One-Day series with a comfortable six-wicket win over England Under-19s at the Central County Ground in Hove on Friday.

Chasing 175, Suryavanshi hit five sixes and three fours during his 19-ball stay before RB Albert had him caught.

India then lost three wickets in next eight overs including captain Ayush Mhatre, who scored 21 off 30 balls opening the innings with Suryavanshi.

Coming in at five, Kundu took the responsibility and finished the game in 24 overs alongside Rahul Kumar, who remained not out on 17.

Earlier, electing to bat, opener Isaac Mohammed gave England a good start, scoring 42 off 28 balls. However, Indian bowlers led by Kanishk Chauhan (three for 20) chipped in with regular wickets to contain the scoring rate.

Rocky Flintoff took up 90 balls to score 56 and got England to 174, a score too less to put India under pressure.
