Paresh Rawal explains why watching films on OTT can be TIRESOME: “You wonder, ‘Har picture mein gun hai? Har picture mein drug hai’”; praises Laapataa Ladies: “It was similar to Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol but at least it was different” : Bollywood News

Paresh Rawal was back in the news yesterday, May 29, when he said in a podcast that his issues with Hera Pheri 3 team had been resolved. In the same podcast, hosted by Himanshu Mehta, he also talked about why films and shows of OTT platforms, across languages and regions, are no longer impressing the audience the way they did before.

Paresh Rawal explains why watching films on OTT can be TIRESOME: “You wonder, ‘Har picture mein gun hai? Har picture mein drug hai’”; praises Laapataa Ladies: “It was similar to Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol but at least it was different”

Paresh Rawal explained, “With OTT, what has happened is that aap thak jaaoge. Earlier, we were like a kid in a candy store and we wanted to consume plenty of content. Now, you wonder, ‘Har picture mein gun hai? Har picture mein drug hai’. You get fed up. You start craving for content which relaxes you or has something different.”

He added, “Sometimes, we remake the same stuff in Bollywood. Now, we don’t have the scale or standard to make the film on the same lines. Isliye munh ke bal girte hai.”

Paresh Rawal continued, “Ek hi kisam ki picturein chalti rehti hai. It tires you out. You want to see something different. This is where Lapaataa Ladies (2024) came in. It was a very interesting film. A similar film came out in 1998-99, called Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol. Nevertheless, it was at least different. It was set in a village and starred new faces. Ravi Kishan’s performance was phenomenal. We need such different kinds of films.”

The host pointed out that when television and VCRs came in, many predicted that cinemas would suffer. But they didn’t and the same is being speculated right now in the era of streaming. On this Paresh Rawal proudly remarked, “The only thing which will survive is live theatre, come rain or shine!”

When asked what the audience wanted to see in cinemas, Paresh replied, “Youngsters crave thought-provoking stuff. Everyone wants entertainment. But for escapism, there are many avenues, your phone is one of them. What you can see on the phone, you don’t want to see in theatres. Hence, give thought-provoking content to the audience that will make them wonder and ponder. Why do makers like James Cameron take 10-12 years to make a film? Those makers are more scientists than directors!”
