The 2007 sports drama, directed by Anil Sharma, was a landmark film as it featured Dharmendra and his sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, sharing the screen together for the first time. Although Sunny and Bobby had acted together in Dillagi (1999), and Dharmendra had appeared alongside Sunny in Sultanat (1986) and Kshatriya (1993), Apne was the first project to bring all three together in a single film.

The film also featured Katrina Kaif, Shilpa Shetty, and Kirron Kher in prominent roles. In Apne, Dharmendra played the role of Baldev Chaudhary, a former boxing champion whose career was marred by scandal. Eager to restore his lost reputation, he pins his hopes on his sons, Angad and Karan, portrayed by Sunny and Bobby Deol. The movie was released on June 29, 2007.

Shilpa Shetty and Sunny Deol have previously shared screen space in films like Himmat, Indian, and Karz: The Burden of Truth. The two are reportedly reuniting for the upcoming action film Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan. The film features a star-studded cast including Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, and others. Lahore 1947 draws inspiration from the play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Nai, written by Asghar Wajahat.

While promoting Jaat, Sunny Deol shared that the release of Lahore 1947, which was originally scheduled for Republic Day 2025, has been pushed back. He explained that the delay is due to producer Aamir Khan’s commitment to perfecting every aspect of the film.
