Anupam Kher, Jackie Shroff, Pallavi Joshi, Arvind Swami, Karan Tacker, M M Keeravani, debutant Shubhangi and many others attended the trailer launch of Kher’s directorial venture Tanvi The Great at a multiplex in Mumbai. The Oscar-winning composer M M Keeravani stole the show with his heartfelt speech and performance. Instead of performing on his older hit classics, he chose to sing ‘Dekhi Zamane Ki Yaari Bichhade Sabhi Baari Baari’ from the Guru Dutt-starrer Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959).

M M Keeravani began by saying, “My friend Neeraj Pandey once asked me to pick my most favourite song from thousands of tracks I have in my library. I am sure you’ll have thousands of songs in your own libraries too. But it’s very difficult to pick up just one song from thousands of songs. At least a hundred songs will pop up in your mind. Nevertheless, I managed to pick up one song. It surprised him and also made him happy. I just want to present the song to you as it reflects the current status of my life.”
He continued, “Many of my contemporaries have died and the city of Chennai is not the same anymore. Hence, even though Chennai is my most favourite city, I don’t visit it as frequently as it gives me pain to see the change. Change is always good. But for people like me, who are fond of old memories, we cannot accept the change so easily.”
M M Keeravani then said, “I carry lots of bitter thoughts in my head all the time. Whether I am at a recording or on a holiday, my mind is always full of sadness. So, let me present this song to you. You might wonder what this song has to do with Tanvi The Great? I’ll explain!”
He then mentioned who all are associated with the song, “S D Burman the great, written by Kaifi Azmi the great and sung by Mohammed Rafi the great (and I am performing it) at the eve of the trailer release function of Tanvi The Great!”
M M Keeravani then sang ‘Dekhi Zamane Ki Yaari’ and it left everyone moved. He added, “It’s ironic and sad to have this particular song as my favourite as it leaves me in depression.”
He added, “Anupam Kher is like my buddy. He’s teaching me how to live life and celebrate every moment. Now, I am not sad anymore over losing my contemporaries, musicians, friends and family members. He told me, ‘Enjoy and celebrate life’.”
Tanvi The Great releases in cinemas on July 18.
