Australia defeated India by six wickets and won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 on Sunday. It has now nearly confirmed its place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final; however, the qualification will only be official once ICC clears it from any overrate penalties.
India, meanwhile, has been knocked out of the race to the final.
The Pat Cummins-led side will meet South Africa, who has already qualified, in the WTC final at the Lord’s starting June 11. Australia is yet to travel to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series later this month.
Coming into the series after a 3-0 loss to New Zealand, India needed to beat Australia or at least draw the five-match series to keep itself in contention.
