India head coach Gautam Gambhir termed his side’s four-wicket win over Australia in the semifinal as a ‘flawless’ performance.
“I think we did but we still have one more game to go. We know we are a good one-day side and the most important thing is how we have played throughout this competition. The hunger, the commitment, and the eagerness to try and do something special for the country is always there in the dressing room,” said Gambhir.
The former Indian cricketer was also pleased with the clinical manner in which India chased down 265, guided by Virat Kohli’s 84.
“It was a very professional (chase), and I say that because we had wickets in hand. That was the plan because we know pitches in the second half can get a little slower.”
“In the last game we batted first, and we thought it was very important to have wickets in hand at the 40-over mark. We planned the chase well. Even if you see after 40 overs, we were only four down. We had two set batters in. So, we knew that the kind of quality we have and the kind of depth we had, we were always under control,” he added.
With his side just one win away from another ICC title, Gambhir hopes the team can play the perfect game in the summit clash.
“In international sport, you want to keep improving. You don’t say that you have ticked all the boxes. There’s always room to improve, whether in batting, fielding, or bowling. And we still haven’t played a perfect game. We still have one more game to go. Hopefully, we can play a perfect game,” remarked the 43-year-old.
