On Friday, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officially announced the icon players for all eight franchises, ahead of the mega auction, scheduled to be held in the city on May 7.
Each franchise signed one icon player for a fixed price of Rs.20 lakh, forming the foundation upon which their squads will be built.
Prithvi Shaw was roped in by North Mumbai Panthers, while Shivam Dube went to ARCS Andheri. Mumbai Ranji Trophy and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane was roped in by Bandra Blasters, while Shardul Thakur will don the Eagle Thane Strikers colours.
Sarfaraz Khan will feature for the Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs, and Tushar Deshpande will play for Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals.
“With established stars finalised as icon players, teams are now well-positioned to build strong and competitive squads at the upcoming mega auction, which will showcase the finest cricketing talent from the city,” said MCA president Ajinkya Naik.
The league will return after a six-year break and will be played at the Wankhede Stadium from May 26 to June 8.
