Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Romario Shepherd played a game-changing cameo against Chennai Super Kings, hammering a blistering 53* off just 14 deliveries to help his side post a daunting 213/5.
Reflecting on his explosive knock, Shepherd said he simply focused on making the most of the chance he was given. “I wanted an opportunity to go there and execute and today I was presented with the opportunity, I just tried to capitalise on it,” he said in the post-match press conference on Saturday.
Walking in during the death overs, Shepherd turned the game on its head, particularly in the 19th over where he took Khaleel Ahmed to the cleaners with four sixes and two fours. His late blitz provided RCB the momentum it needed heading into the second innings. “I was not thinking of hitting 53 off 14, I was trying to get my team to a good finish and to get the momentum back,” the Caribbean big-hitter explained.
Shepherd’s assault proved decisive in a match that went down to the final ball, with RCB clinching a narrow two-run victory.
