For the first time in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings finished at the bottom of the table. But its final match of the season against Gujarat Titans hinted at a brighter future.

The trio of Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel, and Dewald Brevis — brought in as replacements midway through the season —provided the missing spark. They came alive in CSK’s last match, powering the side to a massive win against the Titans.

Mhatre, who stepped in for injured skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, gave CSK strong PowerPlay starts. He struck at 188.97 and scored 240 runs in seven games.

Brevis, who stepped in for the injured Gurjapneet Singh, provided middle-order firepower with 225 runs from just six innings at a strike rate of 180.

Urvil, who came in for Vansh Bedi, showed his big-hitting potential, smashing 68 runs from three innings at 212.50.

CSK can retain this trio next season, offering a chance to build a new batting core.
