Actor Mukul Dev, who passed away on May 23, 2025, following a prolonged illness, is being remembered fondly by his fans and the film industry. However, his brother, actor Rahul Dev, has come forward to set the record straight after several people claimed Mukul was battling depression due to weight gain and lack of work.

Speaking to Times of India, Rahul revealed painful details about Mukul’s final days. “He was in the ICU for eight and a half days. Medically, it was a result of poor eating habits. In the last four to five days, he had stopped eating altogether. Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life. He would turn down several work offers. Only now, after completing all the rituals, is the reality sinking in – and I know the pain will only deepen.”
According to Rahul, the actor went into a shell after the back-to-back losses in their family. Rahul further revealed that Mukul had not emotionally recovered from the loss of their father in 2019 and mother in 2023. “The people speaking now weren’t even in touch with him. They say he was unfit, but he used to run half-marathons. Yes, he had gained weight – but that happens when someone stops caring for themselves. Who really stayed in touch with him between 2019 and 2024? Did they visit him in the hospital or attend his prayer meet?”, he added.
Mukul Dev was hospitalized in May 2025 due to a serious illness. His condition deteriorated over the next few days and he was shifted to the ICU, where he eventually passed away.
Best known for his roles in films like Yamla Pagla Deewana, Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, and Dastak, Mukul will be seen next in Son of Sardaar 2, the upcoming sequel starring Ajay Devgn in the lead. The film is expected to mark his final appearance on screen, serving as a bittersweet farewell to an actor whose journey touched many but whose final chapter was marked by quiet solitude.
